Very weird online art film by Chris Cunningham.

Burfdays

It seems that half the population has birthdays in July.

Luisa

We celebrated Luisa's birthday at a swimming hole up in Bowie. It was a short hike into the relatively secluded spot, but once there we discovered that the recent rains had made the formerly clear river muddy and frothy (which meant it wasn't too clean). And the "beach" area had dwindled to a tiny patch, just big enough for about four people to sit and be sprayed by the accompanying dogs who repeatedly shook themselves right next to the blanket.

We splashed around a bit, talked and nibbled on munchies, and Luisa and I blew glitter at each other. Dylan, Kevin, Gina and Paul (I think?) took off on a long wading and floating jaunt. Gina's sister Lori and I tried to catch up, but walking blindly through murky water studded with downed trees and other debris made us turn back.

When the expedition reappeared (from a different direction), Kevin's eyes were very red from opening them under the water. Not something I'd choose to do … especially knowing someone who still suffers from serious digestive problems after swimming in a Florida river. The golden ochre color you see on the water thumbnail (right) was in a wet area along the path. Luisa explained that a bacteria causes the yellow sheen. Other puddles looked like they had an oily residue, but Luisa again said bacteria. You can determine the difference by poking at the water. If the color "breaks" it's bacteria, if it swirls it's oil.

Kristin

Andy, Kristin and Alison joined us at the Happy Cabin for Kristin's 40th birthday. We spent the day playing in and around the house, listened to some fun old LPs on my turntable, shared childhood books, and managed to not talk about work, except for a brief discussion about the Volcano artwork. We got out samples of holographic paper we are thinking about using in the design and discovered that it threw great rainbow patterns.

I'm tacking a picture of a moth here, since I don't know where else to put it!

Emminent domain also applies to those who support its use!

In between two separate weeks of being out of town, two birthday events, and papering my mom's neighborhood with annexation-related flyers, I've been doing completely fresh pre-press work in preparation for publishing Fluxx 3.1 and the new EcoFluxx. It's been crazy busy…

The Rainbow Gathering

Here's my long-ish (but hopefully interesting) account of our recent trip to the annual Rainbow Gathering. Visit my travelogue, view the slide-type presentation, or click on a photo below to see more.
