Journal (The Ember Update)

Thursday, June 30

I've updated my Hedonism entry with two photos of Stevaughn and Luisa (and friends). They're very cute, check them out.

Snakes, Moths, Shrooms and Fraggles

A luna moth appeared on our window one night. Then I noticed this bark-like moth in the woods. The black snake, a "black racer," was in our front yard, and the gray rat snake (or juvenile black rat snake) was in our basement. The little thing was fierce and we thought it was a copperhead at first. I'm glad we didn't kill it! [Updated Nov. 16, 2005, per emailed comments by David O. … thanks!]

What is happening to this tree? Some insect seems to be pushing little noodles out of the bark, but we never did see the insects themselves. Termites? The yellow fungus was at Sunshine Daydream. I liked the shady setting of the brown mushroom.

Three mushroom groupings in the woods behind our place.

A couple weekends ago we had a few Fraggles down to the Happy Cabin. It seems I have a lot of pictures of Michelle (and sadly none of Sarah), so here's a lopsided representation of the folks who came to visit:

1. Frank, Leah and (2.) Michelle lounging on the porch.
3. Ben, Kevin and Mike (Sarah's boyfriend) around the fire
4. Michelle basking in the candlelight.

We also went to Brew Glass at Sunshine Daydream and had a great time camped alone in the stand of trees, except for our three hillbilly neighbors in their rickety RV / camper, who were pretty fun to listen to. Saturday afternoon was hottish, and a few folks brought blankets up into the woods. That's how we met siblings Ashley and Brent.

Sadly, Angel lost, but it's a mixed losing. "On June 6, 2005, the Supreme Court Ruled 6-3 that the federal government has the authority under the Commence Clause of the Constitution to persecute medical cannabis patients. The court's ruling, which focused on a constitutional technicality involving the definition of interstate commerce, does not overturn or invalidate state and local laws that currently protect medical cannabis patients and their doctors and sets the stage for a Congressional vote limiting federal persecution of cannabis patients." Undoubtedly, the battle will continue.

Fires Rising

Last weekend Kevin and I attended Fires Rising, a pagan event, and threw some hiking into the mix. Visit my travelogue, view the slide-type presentation, or click on a photo below to see more.
