CLICK ANY THUMBNAIL PHOTO TO SEE MORE Journal (The Ember Update)Thursday, January 20ChristmasWe celebrated Christmas 2004 with Kevin's family. On the Eve we had dinner at Kevin's parents with his Grandmother B, and on the Day my mom and brother Robert joined us at Brian and Christy's (Kev's brother and sister-in-law). We visited with their horses, ate deep-fried turkey, had a wine tasting and opened gifts: TampaOnce again last year Kevin and I spent National Play Week (between Christmas and New Years) in Tampa, visiting the gracious and wonderful Russell and Shelly. While there I read Mad Cowboy by Howard Lyman and am trying to become vegetarian as a result (so far I qualify as a pescatarian, someone who eats no meat except fish). We also kayaked for four hours, ate again at the fabulous Trang Viet Cuisine, visited St. Petersburg (but still missed the Dali Museum), walked in the nearby park, had treats at Sacred Grounds Coffeehouse, got to say hi to Maria (but too briefly!), and talked politics, health, crafts and more. It was frigid outside (I don't think it got much above 25° during the day) so we spent most of the time indoors—except for a couple short hikes and to make s'mores. Guitar playing was a popular activity. Alex, Alison's brother, began Friday night by skillfully playing along to the ambient music we were spinning. (1) Saturday he and Alison played together, and (2) Sunday saw Rich picking out tunes on the travel guitar. (3-5) Michelle and Sarah did a GREAT job decorating our Altar to Shiva. (6) Kevin M. made these origami balls out of post-it notes. Kristin and Alison worked on Thank You notes, printing them with a brayer and stencils. (7) Izolda, Alison and Petra hung out with (8) Kristin and Andy nearby, sitting under our colorful lanterns. (9) Matt and Kevin out by the firepit. (10) Michelle and her rock star glasses, with a cup of tea. (11) Alison looked like an alien in this spiky rubber cap someone brought. (12) Petra left this ghostly image by moving as I snapped this photo. (13) Rich shows off his sketch while Kevin M. and Alex look on. (14) Frank in his red union suit. We'd asked folks to come with pajamas, too bad I didn't capture more of them on film (Michelle's and Sarah's were really fun too).
