Cherry Blossom Festival

John, Gina, Margit and I went to the Cherry Blossom Festival last Sunday. I got the idea to go after metting a fellow who was going to be part of a Zen Archery demonstration happening in front of the Jefferson Memorial at 12:30. 'Course, we didn't leave until 12:30, so we missed that. (Sorta. They apparently practice at the archery range just down the hill from my Mom's every Sunday morning, and maybe I can get John to go check it out with me.)

Here are some pics from the outing (click to see more):

Ginohn and Margit playing on the Mall. The Washington Monument from the bottom.
Here's something you don't see every day! At the Roosevelt Memorial (Eleanor statue). Gina commented that perhaps George Bush oughta walk over and read the quotes.
This made me think about my dad's heritage. How did I manage to never see the Roosevelt Memorial before this?!
Another sculpture inspired by the depression era (which in turn inspired John).

Here are two more photos from the previous weekend:

Alison's birthday! A groovy glass with special freezable plastic ice cubes, each with a colored light inside you can turn on and off.

Stuff

Sorry about the unanticipated hiatus in March (not to mention February). I'm actually feeling zero motivation to spend time on my computer these days, so I haven't been.

But I'm having interesting times. I've jumped right into daily life at Wunderland and spend a lot of time here (even now). I also have frequent quiet evenings to myself. I'm a little surprised at the fact that I'm not feeling particularly social, and haven't yet seen a fair number of my friends here. I'm doing me things, which mostly involve lots of reading, note-taking, brainstorming, music-listening, doodling, a little yoga, and generally thinking.

Still, the last 6 weeks have been busy. I've been to two week-long-ish trade shows, Martin and Lucy and adorable baby Morgan came from Scotland to stay for 5 days, I've already been back to California to visit Rash for a long weekend, been to my first Sunday dance (congrats, Renée and Alex!), attended a birthday celebration, and I've walked 30 minutes nearly every day.

I've also discovered that Green Bean likes to sing along to Mondo India and The Beatles. :o)

Asian Art Museum

Rash took me to the stunning new Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Take a look at the photo journal at my Asian Art Museum travelogue entry.

Here are a few to whet your appetite. Oh, and this is the first time in years I've actually created a "previous | next " slide show.

Rash gave me a wonderful weekend. We climbed Coit Tower, absorbed a new documentary film on Noam Chomsky (urgh, I missed two lectures which at the time were local!), discovered a comfortable new hotel, ate at the best sushi restaurant yet, sampled Indonesian, and queried one of numerous cops "protecting" Union Square from peace demonstrators a couple blocks down, who he claimed "would love to come up here and trash the place."
