Gone Looney

During the second week of February, Rash and I made the cross-country trip to move me back to Maryland and my new job at Looney Labs. I'll post a travelogue with photos soon.

I'm excited to be working for Andy and Kristin. I have no doubt that I'll be very busy. Two days after arriving here, A.K.A. and I were off to Toy Fair, and we've been running since we returned (despite most of us getting nasty colds). I haven't unpacked yet, or checked my email in three weeks (I'm scared to!), or even called most of my friends. But I'll get out and about this weekend, and catch up with as much of my life as possible.

Audium and Columbia

Before leaving California, Kerin and I went to the Audium for my second time there (here's the first). This is what it looks like inside, plus a glimpse at the control panel (click to enlarge):

Also, after the Columbia shuttle explosion, a church near where Rash and I lived decorated their candle alcove in red, white and blue lights. Rash and I always liked to look at the candles when we took a night-time walk, and this was a pretty tribute:

David

Photo of David, click to enlarge.Regular readers may recall me mentioning my Palo Alto friend "E" in past posts. E's real name was David, and I'm sad to report that he died three days before I left California. I'd just seen him two days prior. I picked him up at his house, we had lunch at Taxi's (the best burgers anywhere!) where we sat outside and reminisced about the generational differences in dating, then drove to the Stanford campus and picked eucalyptus and yammered as we sat in my car. Eventually I dropped him back home, with a promise for one more visit the day before my departure.

I knew things weren't going well for David. The last couple of visits he seemed to drop off to sleep in the midst of conversation. One of his sons notified me of David's death in a wonderfully complementary email, thanking me for my friendship and saying I was the last bright light in David's life.

I'll miss you, David!
